Our Story
The journey of the Doubt Club started in February 2022, when Laura and Ksenia’s long-planned coffee and a chat in a park was overtaken by the news of Russia invading Ukraine. Through tears and angst over what this might mean for us and our families, we were surprised that within mere hours of the news breaking dozens of commentators offered perfectly polished and persuasive opinions of what it really meant and what should be done next.
Except we were not really surprised, as self-assured hot takes are part of our everyday life. We seem to live under a tyranny of conviction. Whatever the problem, however big or small, there is always someone with a perfectly simple, often immediate answer to it….
Had enough of spending most of your time at work? Just quit your job and follow your passion. In need of a culture transformation? Here is a 5-step framework that works no matter your goals or context. Want world peace? Someone wrote a book about it.
To not have an answer is tough. It means the emotional burden of not knowing, the hard work of sorting through the likely causes and incomplete solutions, the dread of possibly never finding an answer at all. But, it can also be the source of new questions and deeper ways to understand the world and one another.
So, that day we decided to explore how we can give doubt a better reputation, especially in organizational life, which both of us spend most time thinking about. We founded The Doubt Club as a space to share the joys and worries of uncertainty and to find support in resisting the urge and the pressure for simple answers.
